Viarnetto, established in 1927 by Dr. Bruno Bariffi and Prof. Giovanni Bolzani, is a specialized clinic for treatment of mental disorders. Initially located in Villa Viarno, Viarnetto moved in 1935 to its present location, still in Pregassona, close to Lugano. The clinic has remained true to its original objectives, but it has evolved over the last 80 years to accommodate modern medical treatments in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy. This tradition has handed down from generation to generation of psychiatrists, who have embraced the evolution of modern techniques and treatments. In 1993 Dr Luciano Bolzani, medical director since 1960, handed over leadership to his daughter Dr. Lorenza Bolzani.
